OLA!

I started blogging about some years ago. I tried very hard to blog about myself and it often came out with nothing! Of course there were a lot of stuff going on in my life but I was worried it would be misinterpreted if I put it online and god knows who might read it! Now food is a different thing. It's almost like a universal language everybody can relate to and it's much easier for me to make people understand. Since 2009, I've been posting pictures of food I've tried and giving my personal views on them. Just a reminder - I'm neither a certified food critic or a professional photographer (I've yet to own an DSLR and most of my pics are shot from my mobile phone). I'm just an aspiring foodie and I'm here to share my thoughts on the food I've tasted. No puns intended.

2009 REVIEWS Pt 1

Actually, I don't want to condone myself to post all the pics of food which I've eaten at different eateries throughout the year on the beginning of every year and then put my blog to sleep for the rest of the months. It can't be helped though. Hey, I do put in the effort to post a few things along the way, OK. It's not much but enough to keep it awake. Besides, it's best to blog when you're pumped up with ideas but I think mother nature is not only cruel enough to bestow me with a few wrinkles but she has also taken away some of my precious ideas for blogging. Not that I have a lot to begin with. Sigh.

Well, here are the piccies...

Hei Sushi Pt 1
This was my first attempt at trying out this eatery. Frankly, I was excited (yup, I'm a sucker for Jap food and stuff) and fortunately the meal that I ordered on that day didn't fail me.
Bento Set
Although everything was served in 'diet portion', I was way too full for dessert after that. By the way, this restaurant also serves sushi on the conveyor thingy. It's definitely calling me for a comeback!

Hei Sushi Pt 2 (Sembawang Shopping Centre)
I told you, I'd make a comeback. This time I brought the whole motley crew as it was Childrens' Day. Another word, it was like cousins and nieces and nephews outing plus binging kind of event!
Shinkansen
This time around, I was EVEN more excited because Baby S was with me and I really wanted her to try out the kiddy bento set. Look how CUTE it is!
That's rice made to look like Elmo...

Apple Sensation Gelato(left) and Tartufo(right)
This is actually the best part of our meal - dessert time! Tartufo (meaning truffles in Italian) is actually an ice-cream dessert . It's super-duper sinful because as you can see, it's made up of chocolate right to the core. If you're on a diet, ditch this dessert or give it to your enemy who's trying to lose weight!

As for the Apple Sensation Gelato, it does look all innocent with its wholesome, apple-ish goodness but the skin of the apple is actually made of milk chocolate which is hand-painted to make it look like an apple. The gelato in the apple itself...hmmm, unique and quite refreshing actually.

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar
Here's another spot you should avoid if you're on a diet because it's all about chocolates. Hmm, honestly me and diet don't seem to get along so I'm super-friendly with this kind of dessert place. I have JJ to thank for introducing me to Max Brenner and she deserves a pat one her back because I was not one bit disappointed with what I had on that day. The prices of some of the stuff they have on their menu aren't that bad either. As you can see , the pic in the middle, that's their cuppucino served in a genormous cup complete with three slices of chocolate to dip into it. Or if you prefer, you can just let the chocolate melt into your drink, aahh...

Ooh, and not forgetting the Belgian Waffles. The best waffles I've tasted in years! It's best if you share it with someone if you're not a big eater. I shared it with Baby S but it was still not an easy task cleaning up the plate.

Carousel
This buffet restaurant which is located at Royal Plaza on Scotts Hotel is used to be called Cafe Vienna. Back then, I only tried their high tea buffet so this time, since they've changed their name to Carousel, I wanted a go on their dinner buffet instead (also, JJ was persuading me quite badly to try it). I remembered CV's decor was quite old-fashioned so when I walked into the refurbished place, I was quite impressed by the ambience. Plus, their buffet spread was quite lavish and their seafood was very fresh. This was indeed the best and priciest buffet I had in 2009. The dinner buffet costs $58.00 for adults on weekdays and $70.00 on weekends but I guess it's quite alright to indulge on a fine spread once in awhile

This is the first thing that caught my eyes when I entered the restaurant. It's the dessert station! Can you see the jars of colourful meringue which they've arranged at the top shelf? Aren't they gorgeous?

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. Desserts are supposed to be taken at the end of the meal but I just can't help it. Sue me! Besides, I simply couldn't resist the Creme Brulee, heh!

My first appetizer - tapas, thinly-sliced salmon and salad.

My second appetizer - cheese and crackers.

This is what JJ took from their seafood spread. They look so freshly appetising!

JJ insisted that I try their Spinach Strudel. On my way to fetch it, I was sidetracked by their pasta station where they can cook any pasta that you choose to your preference. Well, I chose tortellini in carbonara sauce and it was totally yummy! Oh, and JJ was right about their Spinach Strudel. Definitely worth a try.

This is our last dessert for the evening. We fetched them from the chocolate foutain station. At this station, you can choose from a selection of ice-cream or you may just prefer to dip some fruits into the chocolate fountain or have it both ways, why not?

Hei Shushi Pt 3 (Sembawang Shopping Centre)
I was craving for Japanese food on this particular day and I could only think of one place. It's Hei Sushi for me AGAIN but I guess 3 is not a lucky number for me. Read on...
Tempura Ramen
1st disappointment: I really had high hopes for the broth but I was quite disappointed by the taste which is a bit too sweet for my tastebuds. I do have a sweet tooth but sweet broth? I think this dish didn't really hit the right spot for me. Luckily the prawn tempura wasn't such a letdown.
2nd disappointment: I totally forgot what is the name of this dessert. Anyway, it's got chocolate, hazelnut and coffee in it. Like we all know, chocolate and hazelnut make a great pair. If there's coffee in it, well, that's a bonus but I don't know what went wrong with this dessert. It tasted weird. Even Baby S refused to eat it even though she's crazy over ice-creams.

Well, that's mostly I can put up for now (being a foodie is NOT EASY for an ameteur like me) and with that I shall wrap it up for this half of my reviews for 2009. Signing off!

Aaarrgghh!!!

I am doomed. I am cursed. My life is a mess. Yes, I have to admit this - I am now, officially a Facebookaholic. And guess what? I was a member since 2007 but I just found out about it recently and I wished I hadn't found out about it all! It's unexplainable how I actually became a member. Anyway, this Facebook stuff is super addictive especially when you are hooked on their games eg: Pet Society. You see, this game actually drove me to my insanity. I even think about it in my sleep and I'll have withdrawal symptoms if I don't touch the game for a day. Can you imagine the insanity? So much for my journey to becoming an "aspiring foodie". Bah! I don't even bother to look at food right now. I mean, yes I still do - when I'm eating, of course. Other than that, sorry, nope, not as fascinated by them as I used to be.

Now, I'm trying my best to get Facebook out of my head...it's not easy but today I managed somehow. If not, would I be here, typing out this entry? Of course, the first thing that popped in my head as soon as my laptop was on was to click on Facebook login. But phew, I didn't.

Do they have Facebookaholic Anonymous anywhere? Because if it exists, I'll definitely sign up.

I'm feeling a bit cuppycakey today...

So I got for myself this pretty cupcake from Primadeli ($2.20). Well, pretty it may seem but this cupcake is disappointingly - just a normal chocolate sponge cake topped with buttercream icing and bits of chocolate chip. To add a bit of fun, they placed a plastic butterfly on top of the icing. Nice to look at but definitely not my kind of cupcake. Baby S enjoyed it though and get this - the plastic butterfly is decoration cum accessory! Well, that should make up for the lack of a real cupcake taste.
Looks good on Baby S right?

Yawn...

Well, since I've not been anywhere nice to dine since the beginning of the year, I'll just put up a pic of the first gift I got in 2009. Actually this was supposed to be a X'mas prezzie but it was given to me on the 1st of January instead. I can't wait for more!

Thanks V!

HAPPEHH NOO YEEEARR!

It's a brand new year and I'm just hoping for happier times ahead. Oh yeah, and my blog's officially REVAMPED! Thanks so much V! I really appreciate your patience to guide me - the complete idiot in blogging...heh! I feel like I'm really hyped up to try out as a foodie blogger. Anyway, as I'm such a "backdated" kind of person (another word for a lazy blogger) in this blogging business, I'm going to post all the pictures of 2008 that I've painstakingly collected throughout the year but never found the time to post them. Come to think of it, I'm one of the few pathetic people who started a blog in 2002 but whose entries are less than twenty. Well here are my long overdue pics of 2008 although you have to excuse my humble image quality, courtesy of my humble megapixels...happy screening!

Surprisingly, 2008 is THE year that I truly learn to appreciate food alot. So much so that I started taking pics at almost all the eateries or restaurants that I had my meal. HD wasn't that please at first probably because he felt uncomfortable at other people looking at his wifey rearranging her plate, bowl, etc on the table just so that she can snap a few pics of her meal. I, on the other hand, ignored his disgruntled look and carried on with my aspiring journey to becoming a foodie...hehe! Well, let's move on with the piccies and for starters let's look at the best part of any meal - DESSERT!

Swensen's
Swensen's Fondue
The ice-cream was tasty, all five flavours of it. The chocolate fondue was sickening though. It neither stuck well nor hardened to the fruits, marshmallows and wafers. Oh by the way, the marshmallows and the wafers are the cheapskate types. I'll give them a 5/10 (actually, I'll give them a 4 but their ice cream was quite a winner).

Gelatissimo
There's so much talk about gelato these days. Why not? These Italian dessert hit us by storm since...? I don't know when but I'm sure it was very recent. Anyway, I recommend everybody just to stand infront of a Gelatissimo counter and have a good look at their extensive flavours and the fruits that they used as "props" which they place on top of their gelato, really interesting! As for me, I really adore their creative flavours which even include lychee (so Asian!)and RedBull (who would even think of that?). I'll give them a 7/10 for being a guilt-free temptation.

Haagen Dazs
Ahh...just the name will send shivers through your tastebuds and I can't wait to go back to this ice-cream parlor to try out more of their tantilizing ice-cream creations like their Ice-Cream Sushi, Seventh Heaven and of course, their famous Fondue. Anyway, thanks for the treat V.
This was V's create-your-own Haagen Dazs dessert.

This was mine...rather boring I must say but I didn't want to over-indulge myself because it was someone's treat, hehee!

Cavana
HD, Baby S and me were all feeling slightly peckish on this particular day so I suggested to try out Cavana. Consider it a simple dish but I kind of like HD's dish better than mine. His was the Classic Cutlet Rice and mine was the "not-so-desirable" Teriyaki Chicken Hotplate (it sounds good on the menu, though!).

Korean Food @ Banquet Food Court
This was my last meal at Banquet for 2008 and I simply had to try out the stall that sells Korean food. Furthermore, it seems that Korean cuisine is gaining popularity here in Singapore and I definitely want to be in the "in" crowd!

Bibim Bap
Rice, chicken, veggies, special sauce and egg served in a claypot. The way to eat it: give everything a thorough mix whilst the claypot is still warm till you can see that the egg is cooked.

Well, those were the piccies that I managed to snap up for the year 2008. Of course there were some other places that I had dined in but due to lack of oppurtunity, I had to give them a miss. Hopefully, I'll bring in more reviews for 2009. Till then, have a great year everyone!

It's kinda scary!

What do you know? 2007 is almost a mere shadow as 2008 draws nearer and Baby S is growing so fast she's making me feel older *weep*.

The UNGRATEFUL

Today I ought to thank FNBB for making me feel like a sore loser. Tonight, I hope I'll dream of FNBB get knock down dead by a giant sugar roll from hell!

Friday, 2 January 2004

HaaCHOO!

This is me in my most intoxicated state right now. Stupid flu's been bugging because I've been up almost the whole night - from new year's eve to new year's morning! Nah, didn't rave with all those quackos who only look forward to new year's countdown just so they could rub each other off silly. I was in my room, sorting out all the junk that got accumulated since I moved here 5 months ago! Still not done yet with those junk but hope to finish them off by the end of this week, if I'm not dead by then. Anyway, I came out with an incredible list of resolutions this year. It kind of freaked me out. I mean, I'm always pathetic when it comes to resolutions but I'm going to try to stick to them this year. But, but, but, before I step into the topic of - 'my resolution for this yr...', I'm getting my shuteye first...nite!

Saturday, 7 December 2002

Hahaha!

Oops I did it again! I bet even Britney 'boobs' Spears can't beat me to it. Yep, I know. I know. I'm supposed to update my blog regularly but life's been b****y on me...I mean if that's not reason enough, then, what is?

Shameless ol' me...

For you guys who were unfortunate enough to bump into my blog and especially if you guys have decided to be absolute fans of mine (who am I kidding??), I would like to apologise for the discontinuation of my blogging. I'm sure you guys must be thinking, what's the use of having a journal for the world to see but not keeping it updated? Anyway, what am I doing here thinking that I'll be having sooo many people anticipating what's happening in my freaking life? Oh well...so where do I begin? I swore I had lots of stuff running in my head awhile ago but they just went 'poof!' as soon as I started to type. It happens to me all the time! Must be computer screens. They always have this effect which makes me amnesiac.

*thinks for about 2mins*

*thinks for another 2mins*

Ok, 4mins should be enough. I've already remembered what I should type but there're too many, which one should I type first?

Arrgh! This is depressing! I'm meeting him in about 45mins time. I've not showered and here I am trying to figure out what I should put up on this page. Guess it's best to get back to you later this evening or perhaps in another 10 days time...no, make that in a month's time!

Wednesday, 13 November 2002

WOOHOO!

This is it! My very first blog! I hope things will turn out ok...by the way, I left school a couple of years ago and in my time nobody was into this blogging stuff. Well, I'm 22 and soon turning 23 in two months time. I hate to remind myself of my age. Age is only numbers they say. Bah! That's what people who are getting older always think to pacify themselves. Anyway, I'm tired today. Thought I'd make a cool intro but then again, I'd rather have some mercy on my weary body. Well, this is it. Cheers to me!
